⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A Delightful Dining Experience at AVALON We had a fantastic evening at Avalon, where beautifully balanced drinks and thoughtful, flavorful dishes made for a memorable meal. Drinks • Ginger Rhubarb Martini – A lovely, slightly sweet cocktail where the rhubarb really shines through. Smooth, refreshing, and easy to enjoy. • Avalon – Fresh, herbaceous, and delicate. A light, well-crafted drink that sets the tone perfectly for the meal. Entrée We started with the antipasto plate, featuring three types of hummus—classic chickpea, vibrant beetroot, and a rich olive tapenade—accompanied by crispy baguette slices, prosciutto, and olives. The standout combination was the sweetness of the beetroot hummus paired with the salty prosciutto and briny olives. A simple dish done exceptionally well. Mains • Slow-Roasted Lamb – A beautifully plated dish with lamb that was cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The red wine and lime reduction added just the right amount of tartness and sharpness, balanced by crisp, sweet vegetables like peas, sugar snaps, and cherry tomatoes. The mashed potatoes were rich, smooth, and a great complement. • Barramundi Fish Curry – Not your typical heavy curry—this was more of a refined sauce poured over tender barramundi. Each bite, paired with roasted pumpkin and the aromatic sauce, was layered and delicious. The fish was cooked to absolute perfection. Overall Avalon delivers elevated yet approachable dishes with thoughtful flavor combinations and standout cocktails. Highly recommend for a relaxed but high-quality dining experience.

The food was sensational. A variety of options for dietary needs was welcome. The ambience was very nostalgic and the use of the old building is great. The salmon and the Camembert (I had gluten free bread) are definitely worth going for alone! Oh, and the dessert cocktails were great too!

During a 3-night stay in Katoomba, we enjoyed our food so much on the first night that we returned for a second sitting on the 3rd night. All our dishes were tasty, well prepared and of a good portion size. The venue is in quite a unique setting and is adorned in quite an eclectic manner! This is definitely not your average restaurant in any way and I would highly recommend a visit. If you're not hungry then just go for a drink in the bar to take in the surroundings.

Went for my birthday and I was so impressed with my main course. THE SLOW COOKED LAMB IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION. The red wine jus is sweet and compliments the whole dish. Host was full of personality and the quirky interior makes for a unique experience. Cocktail was lovely (Fantale). Dessert was the chocolate truffle cake, it would have been perfect if it was served warm. As it was my birthday the host sat me in the table with a view of the blue mountains which was a lovely touch. Overall very happy with my birthday meal. The lamb is seriously gorgeous and the whole reason I came to write the review!

Booked by phone 10 minutes before arriving and was impressed by how smooth and realistic their online assistant was. The retro entrance full of vintage items (hello, wall of typewriters!) is a fun contrast to the high-tech booking system, and the restaurant upstairs is lively and welcoming. Inside, the décor is quirky, comfortable and full of character, with a surprising window view of the street and part of the Blue Mountains. Service was excellent — especially from Gabe — and the food was delicious, beautifully presented, and well-timed. Medium price range but worth it. Highly recommend the Avalon. (And the parasol photo? That’s actually in the men’s bathroom — very clever makeover of an old bathroom fixture)

The restaurant is quirky but charming & inviting with a lot of the old blended in tastefully with the decor. Something to be admired & enjoyed. We all started with a cocktail which are mixed by hand with real ingredients in the great looking bar. No pre mixed stuff with these. They were delicious. As to the food, it was very very good. I had the tempura zucchini flowers & the slow cooked lamb. All perfectly cooked and delicious. I found that we had to flag down the wait staff a few times, so if that was improved I would rate it at 5 stars. We were fortunate enough to sit by the large windows which gave a great view. I would definitely recommend Avalon.
